Exciting News!

Koala Smart is thrilled to announce the launch of their brand-new website!  Koala Smart is an educational program designed for Primary and Secondary schools. The website equips teachers with classroom-ready resources like Lesson Plans and Worksheets to help students understand koalas and the challenges they face.

We encourage community members to explore the website and share it with any educators you know to bring koala conservation education into the classroom. Together, we can inspire the next generation of koala conservationists!

The launched website has several exciting new features:

  • Revised Lesson Plans: Lesson plans have been revamped with a new structure, making them simpler for teachers, and are aligned with the most recent curriculum outcomes. They are also now categorised into age groups.
  • Local Koala Information Map: An interactive map provides localised koala information. This will allow teachers to present students with information relevant to their area.
  • Teacher and Student Area: The Teacher Area and Student Area have been redesigned to improve ease of navigation, ensuring teachers and students can access resources efficiently.
  • First Nations Lessons: A new resource includes Learning Sequences developed by First Nations Partners. These lesson plans outline the cultural importance of koalas and share some traditional ecological knowledge related to koala conservation. Dunghutti’s Learning Sequences will be available in July and further expansion to resources from other areas will occur this next financial year.
  • Koala Heroes Program: Through the website, schools will be able to apply for funds to deliver school projects via the Koala Heroes Program.
