Collaborations

We partner with local Aboriginal Elders, Aboriginal organisations and Local Aboriginal Land Councils.

HRLN works with the nine local Councils of the Hunter Region, to bridge the gap between the work that Landcarers do in the field, and each Council’s strategic plans for the management of their natural areas.  As part of this collaboration we have established Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) that set out clear directions and support for all Landcare activities on Council lands.  These are reviewed roughly every two years.

We have MoUs with Cessnock City Council, Dungog Shire Council, Maitland City Council, Muswellbrook Shire Council, City of Newcastle Council, Port Stephens Council, Singleton Shire Council and Upper Hunter Shire Council.  We also work in collaboration with Lake Macquarie Landcare, a partnership between the Lake Macquarie Landcare Volunteer Network and Lake Macquarie City Council which support almost 200 Landcare groups through the Landcare and Sustainable Living Centre, umali barai-ku.

Other collaborations include working closely with Hunter Local Land Services on common goals and objectives for natural resource management across agricultural land.  We run programs supported by grants such as our five-year NSW Government Environmental Trust grant to restore Hunter Dry Rainforest in the Maitland Region (2025-29).  We also work on partnership projects with our neighbouring Landcare network, Mid Coast to Tops Landcare Connection and conservation projects with universities, businesses and National Parks and Wildlife Service.
