The Peter Lever

Tools, Tips and Tricks

The what? The Peter Lever, invented by someone called Peter, used every now and then by bush regenerators for digging the crowns out of things like asparagus fern and also good for digging into gravelly creekbanks when doing plantings. Nice easy bit of gear to make.

You will need, a length of pipe about 60cm long and a bit of car leaf spring about 30cm long (check with local wreckers or suspension specialists, leaf spring steel is more suited to bashing and levering than normal mild steel).

Cut a groove in the pipe about 10cm long, wide enough for the leaf spring to slip into and clean off any galvinising or rust

Stick them together, weld them together, a little grinding to smooth things out and whack some paint on to hide the dodgy welding, sharpen the point and you’re ready to go.
