Lambs Valley Landcare eases the housing crisis for native fauna

Lambs Valley Landcare held a nest box workshop for their members on the 29th January with 12 families attending, and another 5 interested, making 17 families who will have new nesting boxes on their properties 😁.  Thanks to a donation of custom-built nest boxes from a community member in Thornton, HRLN was able to contribute a variety of nest boxes for the group, to accommodate a range of fauna such as parrots, possums, gliders and ducks.

HRLN has also provided trail cameras to monitor the habitation rates of the boxes over the coming months.  Katrina who headed up the workshop says ‘We are really happy with the engagement level and feel it will grow as we share photos of placement and observations from the trail cameras’.

HRLN would like to reach out in solidarity to all groups and property owners whose sites suffered damage in the recent storms.  Augmenting habitat with nestboxes or “Hollow Hogs” may be especially important if older trees with hollows were lost. Let your Local Landcare Coordinator know if you need extra help or support with clean up and repair work.
