Thanks to the generous funding from HRLN, Congewai Valley Landcare was able to run a fabulous eucalypt identification workshop on Saturday July 22 in the Congewai School Hall.
We had 38 people sign up from Congewai, Wollombi and Laguna.
Presenter Peter Mobbs provided workshop notes for participants to print out and bring.
He gave an intensive PowerPoint based theory overview supported by a range of fresh specimens.
Morning tea included an array of homemade cakes and slices made by Congewai Valley Landcare committee members.
Lunch was a sausage sizzle with homemade salads.
After lunch a site walk on Fossil Hill Farm, adjacent to the school, gave access to a range of local species for practice identification. Peter brought a pole chopper to get samples of leaves, fruit and buds were accessible. A vehicle was available for the less mobile participants.
General feedback was very positive, with follow-up activities planned!
