Community pitches in to plant trees in Scone

Newsletters, The Scoop

The reserve on Bhima Drive in Scone was a hub of activity on Friday 26th and Sunday  28th OCTOBER 2018 with over 150 students and families planting approximately 800 trees and shrubs.

The event, sponsored by Bengalla Mining Company, was organised by Council staff with assistance from the Upper Hunter Local Landcare Coordinator, Paul Melehan.

The aim of the event was to raise knowledge of the community of the issue of saline soils in Scone as well as create new habitat for birds and insects in the reserve. All of the trees and shrubs planted were natives donated by Cressfield Stud. A big thank you to all of the schools, pre-schools and community members who participated. Thank you also to Adam Bush from Hunter Local Land Services for attending and Aberdeen Men’s Shed for providing the BBQ lunch.
