Hunter Region Landcare Network is excited to announce the details of the 2023 Our Bushland Poster Competition!
The theme of the competition is Our Bushland: Home of the Regent Honeyeater. There are many ways to interpret and approach this theme and our judges will be looking for innovative and creative ideas.
Because of previous clearing around the Lower Hunter Valley, our bushland in the Cessnock region has become a sanctuary for a wide diversity of threatened plants and animals. One example is the critically endangered Regent Honeyeater. There are now less than 300 Regent Honeyeaters left in the wild and their survival depends on the unique bushland around Cessnock.
The competition is open to students who are attending primary school in the Cessnock region, aged 5 – 12. Schools and families who wish to support students entering the competition will have access to a range of educational resources and activities to provide guidance in learning more about the competition topic. The poster must be A3 in size, and can be a combination of text and illustrations or just illustrations. Submitted posters can be of any ‘flat’ media – drawing, painting, collage, photography, computer art or a mix of these media.
All schools with participating students will go in the draw to win one of 3 ‘Our Bushland’ classroom prize packs, including educational materials and tools valued at over $1000. The winning student entry within each age group category will win their own Our Bushland prize pack including binoculars, books and other fun items. A selection of artworks will also be displayed in a public exhibition.
