Hunter Local Land Services Seed Collection and Propagation

Newsletters, The Scoop

The HLLS volunteer crew would love to start getting their hands dirty, growing some plants for local landholders, landcarers and community groups.

 You can:

=

Give seed to LLS to propagate and support projects/hold in seed bank

=

Bring it to the nursery (Kooragang, Ash Island) and learn some extra propagation skills and we can grow on plants for you

=

If your neighbours/community group are interested in propagation, we may be able to assist with a workshop.

Helpful tips for seed collection:

=

Keep some paper bags, tags and secateurs on hand or in your car

=

Look at fallen branches/trees for any viable seed capsules - particularly banksia, eucalypts and casuarinas and collect before they drop

=

Collect one species per bag, record the species name, where it was collected from (location and community if possible), the number of plants collected from, as well as date of collection. NB: If you’re unsure of species – take some photos or a sample and we will assist with identification where possible
