Hunter Intrepid has hosted a variety of engaging events recently, aimed at fostering environmental stewardship and community involvement:
Fungi Walk and Talk: In collaboration with Monty Sharma from Urban Botanica Collective, participants explored the fascinating world of fungi in local ecosystems. The event offered insights into the diversity and ecological significance of fungi, as well as their vital role in supporting healthy habitats. Monty shared expert knowledge, answering questions and inspiring attendees to see fungi as more than just an overlooked part of the environment.
Beach Clean-Up with Social Sports: Volunteers combined environmental action with social connection by tackling beach litter while enjoying recreational sports. This initiative not only improved the coastal environment but also created a fun and inclusive space for participants to bond over their shared passion for conservation.
Casual Evening with BirdLife Australia and NUSEC: This collaborative event with BirdLife Australia and the Newcastle Uni Student Enviro Club (NUSEC) focused on the ecological role of mistletoe in the landscape. Attendees learned how mistletoe supports biodiversity and plays a crucial role in the recovery of the endangered Regent Honeyeater. Discussions highlighted the interconnectedness of species and the importance of habitat conservation in ensuring the survival of this iconic bird.
These events underline Hunter Intrepid’s commitment to combining education, action, and community engagement to make a tangible impact on local ecosystems.
