Happy Bees at Bolwarra

Landcare Groups, The Scoop

We were very happy to have a beautiful sunny day for our Native Bee Hotel Workshop at Bolwarra Landcare last Sunday morning. The day was supported by Slow Food Hunter Valley and Maitland City Council.

On the day twenty-five of us listened to Sophie and Lynda from the Hunter Branch of the Australian Native Bees Association tell us about Native Bees and how to help them. Then we got stuck into building ten native bee hotels to put down onto the Landcare Site amongst our maturing Eucalypt and Dry Rainforest areas, and our more recent planting of flowering native shrubs.

These bee hotels will provide more places for our native bees to lay their eggs so that future generations of pollinators will be around to help our new plantings and surrounding green spaces to thrive. Lots of fun at the same time as being a great way to help nature.

A big but very worthwhile effort by all our Bolwarra Volunteers, plus other members of our own personal networks who helped out with preparations and on the day.
