Cockatoo Corridors: Planting for the Future

Latest Newsletter, The Scoop

Hunter Intrepid Landcare has secured the Landcare Australia Glossy Black-Cockatoo Habitat Planting Grant to support the conservation of the vulnerable Glossy Black-Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus lathami). This species relies heavily on she-oak trees for feeding and large eucalypts with suitable hollows for nesting.

Hunter Intrepid is currently seeking suitable planting sites across the Hunter Region to commence this project in Autumn 2025. Private landholders interested in participating are encouraged to express their interest by completing the Glossy Black-Cockatoo Habitat Planting Expression of Interest (EOI) form.

Submitted properties will be evaluated against core habitat areas and suitability criteria, with assessments conducted by experts. Notifications regarding the outcomes will be communicated via email in early 2025.

This project represents a significant step towards enhancing the habitat and supporting the recovery of the Glossy Black-Cockatoo in the Hunter Region.
