Happy 2nd Birthday to the Bolwarra Landcare site at the John Wilkinson Sporting Complex, Victoria Rd, Bolwarra. What a transformation in under 2 years- the site overall is approx 2000 m2 and has several areas being revegetated over time.
The area pictured below which adjoins the lagoon was planted out with sclerophyll species from the Hunter Lowland Redgum forest vegetation community; we are now transitioning half of this site into Dry rainforest with additional plantings.
Why you may ask? Research on the historic vegetation of the lowland riparian zones from Maitland to Morpeth strongly suggests that ‘Cedar Scrub’ rainforest was abundant here before colonisation. If you would like to get involved at Bolwarra, the group meets the third Sunday of each month from 9am -11am. Contact Stacy 0429 444 305 for more information.
