Blazeaid to the Rescue

The Scoop

In a slight departure from their usual works, Blazeaid volunteers are currently (28th April) at Cassilis assisting with revegetation of areas following the 2017 Sir Ivan Bushfire. In the fire slightly over 4 years, ago fifty-five thousand hectares of land was burnt, including 35 homes, numerous livestock, domestic pets and native animals and 5700km of fencing.

Blazeaid spent months at Cassilis following the fire rebuilding fences, sheds, watering systems and numerous other tasks and now they’re back to help establish shelterbelts and vegetation corridors.

Organised by Hunter Local Land Services with the assistance of Merriwa Landcare and many of the plants grown by volunteers at Muswellbrook and Merriwa the project hopes to get 4-5,000 plants planted over the next couple of weeks.
