Rutherford Landcare’s biodiversity boost project worth $12200 is auspiced by Hunter Region Landcare Network.

Rutherford Landcare site is Lower Hunter Spotted Gum Ironbark, an Endangered Ecological Community under the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act. Revegetation with 2200 plants and weed management on the site will help to restore and improve the ecological integrity of this EEC. This project will deliver a functional biodiversity corridor connecting some significant vegetation to the Stony Creek sub-regional biodiversity corridor that is less than 350 metres away, identified in Maitland Council’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy as a very important corridor.

The newly founded Landcare site is in the middle of a sub-corridor linking valuable remnant stands of bushland.  These stretch from a significant stand associated with the Hunter Water owned reserve behind The Old Maitland Inn, to Kevin Green Reserve through to the Brigantine Saint Fagans Parade Gully line.  These join to another Rutherford Landcare site that then connects to the strategically recognised Stony Creek biodiversity corridor.  To find out more or get involved see: https://www.facebook.com/groups/rutherfordlandcare
