NatureMapr gets the plant and animal sightings you make to the conservationists who need to know about it.
Aaron Clausen transformed his view of Canberra Nature Park when he nearly trampled a colony of the critically endangered Canberra Spider Orchid. Intrigued by their beauty, he connected with Dr. Michael Mulvaney from the ACT Government, leading him to explore various species across the ACT. To manage the growing information he collected, Aaron created a prototype in 2013 that evolved into NatureMapr, a repository for recording species sightings.
The platform’s data and image gallery inform the public and government bodies for planning and scientific research, supporting on-ground environmental outcomes, such as the protection of sensitive species, informing development decisions, and guiding prescribed burns. More than a decade later, Aaron and his team continue to enhance NatureMapr, dedicated to preserving the region’s natural heritage.
