Sand Dune Stabilisation

Workshop & Working Bee

Saturday 6th May 2017 9am – 1pm

Come and explore the sand dunes of Belmont Wetlands State Park (BWSP), plant a few plants, and learn how to plan for future sites based on the experiences of others.

Our leader for this workshop is Phil Heaton who has extensive experience in rehabilitating the dunes of Budgewoi on the Central Coast, as well as leading many other successful bush regeneration projects.

Background

Belmont Wetlands State Park stretches 4.5 kms along the coast from Redhead to Belmont South. The 549 hectare site contains diverse ecology and large areas of unspoilt or only partly-damaged ecosystems recognised as regionally significant.

BWSP is run by a Trust who have already invested many hours of volunteer time into reclaiming and stabilising the degraded dune areas.

Join us for a great day out learning about and supporting this amazing natural area on your doorstep.

Please bring hat, sunscreen, wear closed shoes.

Plan for the day

  • 9am: Meet at site office Kalaroo Rd, BelmontNorth. Walk beside the Jewells Wetland into the dunes.
  • 10am to 11.30am Planting
  • 11.30am to 12.15pm Dune fencing demonstration.
  • Morning tea and BBQ lunch provided.
  • Enjoy a 4WD trip down the beach after lunch if you are interested.
